Pick one issue (any issue) that currently exists in your community or your surrounding community:
(Give thorough responses)
1. What made you pick this issue?
2. What do you think caused this issue?
3. Can this issue be fixed?
4. How can this issue be fixed?
Contributing to fast avandcement of gobal warming is a issue in most communities. It can be fixed by people gaining awareness of the world and helping by reducing their impact in goal warming. People not knowing and not caring about their actions are some of the reasons why the world is decaying faster than before.
ReplyDeleteA very important issue in my community is the lack of educational opportunities that students are being offered. I picked this issue because it directly influences my life. I spent a significant amount of my childhood in good public schools with quality teachers and equipment. I moved back to the Los Angeles area in the 7th grade and began attending one of the worst middle schools in the city-Audubon. There, I learned that students in the Los Angeles area are not being afforded the same educational opportunities as students in other parts of the country. We are forced to sit in overcrowded classrooms with underqualifies teachers on a yearly basis. I have observed a number of problems in the educational backgrounds of the students in this area. The lack of effort being put into each students' education during early stages of development has caused this problem. When students miss one thing, they tend to get overlooked, and continue missing things. Another factor is the fact that finding good schools in the Los Angeles area is a long and difficult process. Finding a good school without tuition is nearly impossible in this area. There is a way to fix this problem. By building all-around good schools, and focusing on properly educating young children, we can fix this problem. There are always going to be unanticipated circumstances that can not be fixed, but this community has to start from somewhere. A good place to start would be by demanding an adequate education system.
ReplyDeleteThe issue that currently exist in my community is gangbanging. This issue is a negative part of my community that does nothing but makes it look bad. I picked this issue because something has to be done about not only the gangbangers but their interaction with each other. This issue is cause by generations of men and women claiming territorry that results in conflict between the groups. This issue will not be resolved any time soon because of the selfishnish of some hardcore gangbangers. I am not saying that all gangbangers are bad people but as a whole this issue is tearing up our community.
ReplyDeleteUnemployment is a big issue that currently exists in my own community and in the surrounding communities. I chose this topic because its happening to many people everyday. Lots of people are starting to rely more and more on the government. Some causes of unemployment are recession, disability, discriminating factors in the work place and rapid changes in advance technology. Changes in advanced technology effects unemployment because robots, and advanced systems takes the place of manual labour. I think this problem can be fixed and one of those ways can be by larger companies can invest in work study programs, to directly employ poeple. I also, think this issue can be fixed by a larger stimulus which will restore full employment. The effects of unemployment is damaging. Families are not finiacial stable and are struggling to survive.
ReplyDeleteThe issue that currently exist in my community is people in poverty. The reason i picked this issue is because this is not just a community issue but is a world wide problem and many suffer from this. There are many causes for poverty some of which people may believe a person may have put themselves in that predicament, which can be the case for some but not all. Others may have been born into poverty and its harder for them to find a way out or in some cases impossible. The school does not give the material needed to have a successful education. This issue can be fixed with changes made to different schools around the community. This issue can be fixed by making sure everyone has a fair right to education as the other schools. Such as better materials, more books, a better working environment, ect.
ReplyDeleteOne issue that currently resides in my community is the lack of resources in schools. As a student i feel like I've been deprived of all of the privileges that other students at other schools would have. I believe this issue could definitely be fixed. If more effort was put into the education system it would run more smoothly. Also if more money was put into varies school equally it would give all schools and students the resources we need and the chance to succeed.
ReplyDeleteA issue in my community is single motherhood. Usually women are stuck to raise their child by themselves. Mainly because no one else will do it, women carry the biological burden of having children. Women are responsible for sexual urges as well as men but women can control urges in ways men cant. Women and men having unprotected sexual intercourse is a reason for single parenthood. Women get the fault for not being aware of their decisions and slate stuck with a child. When people become more educated and aware about protected sex the issue can change. Also when men stop leaving their childs mother to care for their baby alone the issue can change.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely an issue in the urban context. Many children are going up fatherless and are lacking the support of a full family structure. Children need their fathers just as well as their mothers and with this tandem, children grow up with a sense of abandonment. Great Topic!
Deletean issue that seems to be reoccurring in my community is death. what made me pick this topic because someone everyones family dies from something but the death rate today is really high especially when some of these deaths depend mainly on gangbanging, drugs, ands lack of education. what made me Aldo choose this topic becausen its something that really frightens me because the death rate of children or teens is really high.I think the man issue with death is not that a circle of life but many kids take life as a joke and when they see what death is they believe its a place they don't want to be.also death can be caused by people who just don't know how to keep their mouths shut and it cause consequence not only for them but for the victims they take with them.this issue can be lowered if kids would stay off the street and go to school to learn the way society is fixed is for us to fail and rid them of each other.so I believe if kids went to school and let gang life go then maybe the death rate may be lowered.
ReplyDeleteAn issue in my comunity is the safety. as time goes on the more dangerous it gets for the people of my generation. i do believe this problem can be fixed if the community is united. the lack of pride in the community has caused it to slowly get worse and worse. unless the people come together and make a concious effort to make the community better, it wont happen.
ReplyDeleteAn issue that currently exists in our community, is an increase in college tuition. I chose this issue because in the next two years I would be attending college and I am concerned about my ability to afford it. Not only is college tuition increasing, but scholarships are decreasing. I believe this issue was caused because of the state of our economy. Also because it takes more resources now to educate a student. Yes, this issue can be fixed by the government granting more funding towards college education. This issue can also be fixed by the upper class offering more scholarship opportunities.
ReplyDeleteA current issue in my community is the issue of black and brown conflict.
ReplyDelete1) I chose this issue because it's something that is personal for me and something that is completely possible to avoid. It is something that stems from racism and from our capitalist government and I therefore think that it is not truly being addressed enough, the lack of education surrounding the issue is what is stopping our communities from working together in order to end the oppression that is afflicted on us as a group.
2) The issue was caused by the social hierarchy that was put in place in order to ensure the least amount of competition for those who have had a head start in the capitalistic environment and have had more exposure. It is enforced by structural antagonism, which ensures that there is (false)conflict produced in order to have each group feel as though they are competing against one another. This is what ends up leading to the segregation of our group as a whole.
3) It is very possible that this issue can be resolved.
4) In order for it to be resolved, there needs to be the education of minorities, in order for them to understand that they are placed in a society that has it out for them so to speak. With this they would be able to understand that the fight is truly not against one another but that it should be against those who are overall oppressing us. This education should provide insight on the structures that are produced by our capitalistic society, as opposed to just accepting them for what they are and allowing them to continue to oppress us as a people.
I do believe that gang violence is a huge problem in my community. I picked this issue because many innocent people have been harmed and or killed due to gang violence, and it is becoming more out of hand. I dont know exactly what caused this but I can assume its due to young boys or girls who are angry at the world and have too much time on their hands. People also turn to gangs because of their problems at home or they have issues with their parents or family while growing up. I think this issue can be fixed without a doubt. If individuals take the time to talk with their children effectively before things take a turn for worse there would be a lot less gang members and gang violence.
ReplyDelete1. A major issue in my community is the amount of minorities, specifically African-Americans, going to jail. I chose this issue because it is a major event that is occurring in our very community today. Often on a daily basis, I will hear about someone's loved one or family member/relative is in jail, and often, they are from my fellow African-Americans. It has also been brought to my attention by several teachers and authoritative figures on how much money the government invests into building prisons and penitentiaries specifically geared towards admitting minorities. The government invests so much money in these institutions in fact, that there is more money invested into prisons than invested towards education, which I see as a major problem in my community.
ReplyDelete2. I think a numerous amount of things caused this issue. However, the main reason I have observed is the lack of proper education and concern for the people that are currently in jail. Many of the people that are in jail originated form poor neighborhoods where resources, lack of proper education and gang violence was at a very high level. Many were distracted and became involved with the wrong people and ended up living a very unhealthy lifestyle that essentially, guaranteed them a spot in jail. So essentially, ill prepared and unresourceful neighborhoods produce ill prepared and unresourceful human beings that would probably, more often that not, end up in jail.
3. Yes, this issue can be fixed.
4. This issue can be fixed by properly educating and providing more resources for not only people who can afford it, but everyone, especially minorities. The government seems to want to do nothing more than to keep exploiting and taking advantage of minorities, even though they are the highest percentage of people in jail. The government should want to reduce the percentage of minorities in jail by properly educating and providing resourceful and positive outlets for minorities, but instead, we are still faced with the same ill prepared, impoverished neighborhoods and circumstances.
Obesity is a big issue that currently surrounds my community and other minority communities. I choose this topic because obesity in America is effecting every aspect of life and our society. There are multiple causes of this epidemic. One cause is the advancement in technology and the pace of living. People stopped having time to cook and began eating out at fast food restaurants more often. Another cause is just person laziness. People choose not to cook but instead decide to eat out. The last major cause is politics. City officials vote on ordinances for fast food restaurants. The reason there are so many fast food restaurants in certain neighborhoods is because official vote for them the be there. Minority communities tend to be fast food deserts. This is a problem, because when you can find unhealthy food for cheaper than what you find healthy food for and you are already poor you go with the cheaper option. This issue can be fixed. The people have to united and show city officials that they want them to stop allowing so many fast food restaurants in their neighborhood. They also have to stop eating at the fast food places they no longer want to be there, because if the consumer is not consuming the business is not making any money and will therefore have to close. If other fast food restaurants see this they will try to improve their food. The last action that can be taken is to speak up for what restaurants grocery stores/markets they do want to give them healthier options. The obesity epidemic is curable it just takes people of the community to get off their lazy behinds and speak up.
ReplyDeleteWhat made me pick my issue is how much disaster in America it has caused. It has a golden arc and sells the BIG MAC. Yes Im talking about Mc Donalds and its food. What caused this issue is them because they put preservatives in their "food" and it causes people to be addicted. This can be fixed but most likely wont unless the government agrees with us to kick this business out of America. People will also have to work together Black, and Latinos will have to become one. This business is only targeting the minority population but yet we still agree with it by giving Mc Donalds our money. If this issue is not fixed not only will minorities have a short life expectancy but America as a whole will perish.
ReplyDeleteA growing problem in my community are signle parent households depending on government assistance. I chose this topic due to my direct interaction with many individuals who are in this predicament. I think this problem started in the 80's with the crack cocaine epidemic. Many families who were once tightly bound were weakened by the drug. As a result many households became no more and children had to strive for themselves. But now with the damaged economy the thought of even looking fr a job in white America goes dim let alone for the black community. Personally i believe this issue can be fixed. If the government had more programs where single mothers could go to work in their community while making a difference could be very effective. To many times in in different states do we see welfare to work programs where the participants are shipped 3 hours away in another location and not helping their children or community directly. With more community based work, the black community can strive and not be overlooked and forgotten by white politicians. It plausible. It just needs to be taken to action.
ReplyDeleteI feel an important issue that needs to be dealt with is the incarseration of African American men. I choose this issue because it is an increasing dilema that ultimately needs to be dealt with. I believe this issue was caused by the lack of education of our males, and the indoctrination caused by the media that tells us that it it ok to break the law. I feel that this can be fixed, but it will take a long time and much determination and focus. If we as African American males can ignore the stereotypes placed on us and educate ourselves, than we can change the negative statistics of our African American men.
ReplyDeleteThe issue with education not being a priority for some African Americans in the community is an issue. The causes are education not being stressed in schools most are designed to set them up for failure and life of crime, uneducated parents , and misguided home life. The problem can be fix if schools and parents were more supportive and presenting the importance of education to African American youth.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest issue in my community is violence. I chose this issue because it is the one problem that can be stopped by one person. They're the ones to blame because they are the ones doing it. They have the abillity to say no and walk away but they choose not to. This issue can be stoped, by telling them that it's okay to say no; and at the end of the day it's nobody elses problem or fault but yours.
ReplyDelete1.)In my community, there are many different gangs. With the existence of these various gangs, violence evolves, causing many outbreaks of unwanted despair.I picked this issue because of the horrific impact gangs have had on the people of my community.Several years ago, the purpose of gangs were to revolutionize black communities from inequalities put upon them by racist and discriminators. But over time,, gangs have evolved into violent groups of people, oppressing communities with unwanted, but deserving labels. Gang members have indoctrinated many people, especially youth into believing that by joining a gang, they'll be cool, and will fit in.This is an important topic, that desperately needs to be addressed.
ReplyDelete2.)I believe that over time, many people began to join gangs for the wrong reasons; to destruct instead of reconstruct. I believe that when many gangs were first formed, some people didn't know how to solve problems in an adequate manner. So instead of doing what was/is right and avoiding violence, many members sought violence as a tool to fix problems. Subsequently causing wars within primarily black communities.
3 & 4.)With the right determination and dedication I do believe that this issue can be fixed. And when I say fixed, I don't mean sending every gang member to jail. Im talking about mentoring those who mindsets have traveled towards the direction of destruction, as well as proceeding in other actions that'll be active in abolishing gangs. One example would be to stop advertising gangs through the media. Many rappers are members of gangs ,in which their fans look up to them as well as admire them. Since many rappers are successful, many youth believe that they too can reach success, whether or not they are a gangster , feeling better about themselves if they are.
An issue in my community are homeless people and I think that should be addressed. When most people see homeless people, not much thought about their situation or how they became homeless circulates their heads. If there is some thought processed, they are usually negative responses. Negative responses like, “that person is homeless because they did it to themselves.” But what most people don’t consider is that it is as much of the government’s fault as it is the person without a home. Although, the government funds outreach programs to assist the homeless, there should be more active participation among the government and the community. The government should encourage individuals to not live in the streets, instead of taking the situation lightly. I do believe that there is room for improvement. This issue might not become totally extinct, but initiatives should be taken to decrease this problem within the community. Some possible solutions to this problem would be to develop more housing units like shelters and to educate the community about the homeless. If more people become aware of this issue, then precautions can be taken to prevent someone from becoming homeless. After all, the reality is that some people are a pay check away from being homeless.
ReplyDeleteAn issue in my community is the vast amount of payday advance establishments. I chose this topic because i feel that it is an injustice to our community, Those who are less educated are taken advantage of by the owners of these establishments. The people who use payday advances think that they are gaining an advantage by getting their monthly pay ahead of time, but are ignorant to the fact that they are paying high interest and digging themselves an even bigger hole. These establishments are not so high in numbers in the white neighborhoods because they wont use them. So, in order for us to begin to see a decrease in the number of payday advance loan places, we must stop using them.
ReplyDeleteAn issue that currently exists in my community is graffiti. graffiti is a huge problem because it makes the community look like a bad environment to be in and keeps people away from wanting to be around the area. graffiti in my area is caused by gangs marking their territory. rival gangs compete for the most marked territory and sometimes names get crossed out causing a huge mess on a wall nearby. graffiti can be fixed in my community by having a neighborhood watch to have people be on the lookout for people doing such crime. Wayne A.
ReplyDeleteThe issue of my community is gang banging. this problem is big in my community because they are always fight and shooting. All they are doing is putting them selves down just for a color and that is why society looks down on blacks now. they are just creating more problems for everyone cause innocent people get hurt for their wrong doings. This issue can be fixed police officer need to be more active and they need to have better influence in the community. Gang bangers have no mother or father and have ruff lives so they turn to gang banging but if our community tries to step up and help them the numbers may decrease.
ReplyDeleteAn issue that i would like to focus on in my community is poverty. I chose this topic because poverty can be very contagious. It is to be said that if parents don't have degree's, they more than likely won't encourage or care if their children get degree's either. This has been a re-occuring topic since slavery. Blacks were always the worst at something, or the least paid, just something that would keep them low to society. Now in reality blacks are the least likely to graduate from high school, but yet they have the highest rate of going to jail. They are looked at as a problem in society, and when they start to believe that or do the "street life" poverty begins. Once you are in poverty, welfare gets ahold of you or you give up and never climb out of the whole. This issue can be fixed, however it will take some effort and stability. If blacks can believe that they can dominate the world or at least stay average in society then i change will occur, but if they are doing the same things as now such as drugs, gangbanging, and putting money over everything then there will be no change.
